Using a Saw Mill vs Buying From a Retailer
If you’re thinking about calling us, you probably already have a project in mind for that downed tree. But in case you don’t, let’s go over the benefits of having our mill cut your tree. Besides the obvious – you can’t buy quality 18′ long beams at Lowe’s or Home Depot, there’s other differences.
Not only do the big stores limit the species you can buy (try finding spalted maple at Lowe’s!), but you don’t even get what you pay for. For instance, a 2 x 4 really measures 1.5 x 3.5! That’s because the rough cut lumber is measured before drying. Mill on Wheels offers true dimensional lumber, either from our inventory or cut from your log. Longer, shorter, thicker, quarter sawn and bookmatched – no matter what your taste, we give you a higher quality lumber at a reasonable price.
Not to mention, if you have a soft spot for that tree because you, your kids and your grand kids all climbed it, wouldn’t it look better as a harvest style farmhouse table in your dining room than a piece of firewood in your fireplace?
So What Can I Do with All This Lumber?
Here are just a few things you can use your wood for:
- Cedar Shakes
- Landscape Timbers
- Barn Timbers
- Cross Ties
You can also sell your wood to recoup the money spent to have it cut. We have people call us for white oak, pine and other species all the time. If we have a buyer, we’ll give them your information and they can put the money in your pocket. That means you’ll make back what you paid us (and maybe more).
Give us a call or email us and we’ll be glad to discuss what your options are. You can reach us at 828 899 0540 or 828 536 WOOD.
